Keeping Spaces Healthier During Cold & Flu Season

Cold & Flu Season: How We Help Keep Spaces Healthier

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about something we all deal with every year — cold and flu season. From fall through spring (and especially during the winter months), sickness tends to spread faster in shared spaces like offices, schools, and public buildings.

As a cleaning professional, this is the time of year when our work really matters.

Why Disinfection Is So Important

Cleaning isn’t just about making a space look nice — it’s about protecting people.

Cold and flu germs can live on surfaces much longer than most people realize. Things we touch every day — door handles, light switches, desks, shared equipment — can hold germs for hours, sometimes even days. That’s why routine cleaning alone isn’t enough during flu season. Proper disinfection is key to slowing the spread.

Our goal is always to create a healthier indoor environment so employees can stay productive, students can stay in class, and families can feel safer.

It’s Not “Spray and Wipe”

One thing many people don’t know is that disinfectants don’t work instantly. Spraying and wiping right away often doesn’t give the product enough time to do its job.

For disinfectants to be effective, surfaces need to stay wet for a specific amount of time — sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes a few minutes — depending on the product. That’s why we use EPA-approved, hospital-grade disinfectants and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. In many cases, disinfectant wipes help maintain proper contact time and coverage.

High-Touch Areas We Focus On

Bathrooms usually get the most attention, but many other high-touch areas need just as much care — especially during flu season. We pay close attention to:

  • Door handles and push bars
  • Light switches
  • Water fountains and hydration stations
  • Soap and paper towel dispensers
  • Shared equipment and common surfaces

These areas are disinfected more frequently because they’re touched by many hands throughout the day.

Working Together Makes a Difference

Whether we’re working with a business, school, or facility manager, communication is important. During peak flu season, increasing cleaning frequency and clearly identifying priority areas can make a big difference.

At the same time, personal habits matter too. Handwashing, using sanitizer, and staying home when sick all help reduce the spread. When cleaning efforts and personal responsibility work together, the results are noticeable.

Our Commitment

Cold and flu season can’t be avoided, but its impact can be reduced. By using the right products, applying them correctly, focusing on high-touch surfaces, and encouraging healthy habits, we help create cleaner, safer spaces for everyone.

This is more than just cleaning for us — it’s about care, consistency, and keeping our community healthier.

Thanks for watching, and as always, stay well!
