Safety Focus: Take the Extra Step—Avoid Shortcuts

Dear Team,

Many workplace accidents begin with a small shortcut during a routine task. When we are busy or nearing the end of a shift, it may be tempting to skip a safety step to finish faster. However, saving a few minutes is never worth risking an injury.

Before beginning a task, pause and ask:

“Is there a safer way to do this?”

Important Safety Reminders

• Use an approved ladder or step stool—never stand on a chair, desk, or bucket.
• Place wet-floor signs before mopping and clean spills immediately.
• Wear the required gloves, safety glasses, and other protective equipment.
• Read product labels and Safety Data Sheets. Never mix cleaning chemicals.
• Inspect vacuum cords and equipment before use. Report damaged equipment immediately.
• Ask for assistance when lifting or moving something heavy.
• Keep hallways, doorways, stairs, and emergency exits clear.
• Report unsafe conditions, injuries, and near misses as soon as possible.
• Do not rush, especially near the end of your shift.

You are authorized to stop and correct an unsafe situation before continuing your work. Taking a few extra minutes to use the proper equipment and follow the correct procedure helps ensure that everyone goes home safely.
